Insights from AONM’s Mitochondrial Webinar Series

Published on 5 October, 2023

Are you interested in understanding the fascinating world of mitochondria and how they impact your health? Look no further! AONM hosted a webinar series that delved into the crucial aspects of mitochondrial health, featuring experts who provided valuable insights and knowledge.

Here’s a summary of what you need to know:

The ATP Profile and Mitochondrial Health Index (MHI):

Professor Koenig from MMD, the laboratory collaborating with AONM, introduced two essential tests – the ATP Profile and the Mitochondrial Health Index (MHI). These tests help assess the state of your mitochondria, the powerhouse of your cells. The ATP Profile examines mitochondria at rest, while the MHI evaluates their performance under standardised stress levels. This analysis can reveal vital information about oxidative stress, electron transport chain function, mitochondrial integrity, ATP production, and more.

Notably, excess ATP usage outside the mitochondria may indicate cellular challenges like infections or contaminants.

Additional markers and more insights into mitochondrial health, testing and potential therapies can be found in this follow up webinar with Professor Koenig.

 “Mitochondrial Magic” with Gilian Crowther:

In her webinar, titled Mitochondrial Magic: Tips for revitalizing your mitochondrial health, Gilian Crowther explored various pathways that may become compromised in mitochondria. She discussed factors such as macro- and micronutrients, membrane composition, oxidative stress, and obstacles along the electron transport chain. Gilian highlighted the importance of removing disruptive factors for mitochondrial recovery and shared strategies to support different pathways.

Mitochondria Dysfunction and Chronic Disease with Dr. Sarah Myhill:

Dr. Sarah Myhill’s presentation How is mitochondrial dysfunction linked to chronic disease, and what can we do about it? covered a wide range of aspects related to mitochondrial health. She emphasised the importance of having “fuel in the tank” and discussed the benefits of ketones. Dr. Myhill also touched on raw materials necessary for mitochondrial enzyme systems and shared findings from her extensive mitochondrial testing experience. Her talk extended to the roles of the thyroid and adrenal energy delivery mechanisms in mitochondrial repair.

The key Takeaway:

Dr. Myhill’s conclusion was clear: To improve mitochondrial function, it’s essential to address various aspects in the right order. She referenced her books, including Paleo-Ketogenic: The Why and the How and emphasised the significance of addressing mitochondrial health in chronic diseases.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to explore the world of mitochondria and gain valuable insights into your health. AONM is here to support your journey to better well-being through understanding and addressing mitochondrial health.
