International Women’s Day 2023

Published on 8 March, 2023

On this International Women’s Day, we celebrate the remarkable achievements of women in all fields, including the pioneering women who have dedicated their lives to medicine, research, science, and complementary health. From ground-breaking doctors and innovative researchers to transformative scientists and holistic practitioners, women have been pushing the boundaries and advancing knowledge in numerous fields.

Despite facing countless obstacles and barriers throughout history, women have persevered and made incredible strides. Today, we honour their achievements and highlight their contributions to the world.

In the complementary health field, women have been instrumental in developing and promoting holistic health practices that complement traditional Western medicine. From herbalists and acupuncturists to naturopaths and homeopaths, women in the complementary health field have been using their knowledge and expertise to help people achieve optimal health and wellness.

Let us celebrate the women doctors, researchers, scientists, and practitioners in the complementary health field who have paved the way and inspire future generations of women to push the boundaries and make a difference in the world. Together, we can build a brighter future for all.

On this day AONM wish to celebrate, honour, and thank the wonderful women that we have been blessed to work with and learn from.  Here are three such women.

Gilian Crowther:

AONM’s Director of Research, Gilian is a fully qualified Naturopath and Nutritional Therapist. She specialises in complex multisystem disorders and finds that her core focus “mitochondrial dysfunction” underlies much of today’s chronic disease.

Gilian studied complementary therapy in Germany for many years before completing her training in the UK, and is also a proficient and highly qualified translator and editor. She has been a senior member of AONM since 2010, and helps coordinate the Academy’s events and outreach.
